Beach Dive
In a few years, the Kata Reef has become a really popular destination, where local divers dive weekly and always find something interesting to see. The brightness of the water cannot be compared to more distant destinations, but you can often find visibility here 15-20 meters during the winter season. The reef is home to diverse life from turtles to macro-sized critters. An easy and nice destination if you don't want to spend the whole day on a boat.
Beach Dive
In the middle of Kata beach you can find the so-called a seagrass field with a lot of small life. Among the grass there live seahorses, tiny starfish as well as many different nudibranch. The best dive in this area is a slow and peaceful exploration trip, during which you can see a lot of new and interesting things.
Beach Dive
A divesite that requires a little more surface swimming is worth the effort. Located on a sandy bottom, coral “fingers” are the perfect home for seahorses, nudibrach, and the rare frogfish. During a leisurely dive, you can safely explore (and photograph) the marine inhabitants found among the coral fingers.
Beach Dive
From Kata beach, you can also find the macro photographer’s dream (and challenge): Costasiella kurihimae, more commonly known as Shaun the sheep nudibrach. The almost micro-sized nudibrachs found in a tiny leaf found in the middle of the sandy bottom are unique and really hard to spot. It is recommended to bring a decent flashlight and a magnifying glass with You for this dive.
Beach Dive
Kata has several artificial reefs made of concrete cubes, which have taken home both schools of fish and rare pipefish. When researching cubes, you can easily wear the whole dive and you will always find some new and interesting things to explore.
Beach Dive
From Karon Beach you can reach a destination that has a lot to admire for those who love corals. The destination does not have as many schools of fish as on the Kata side, but here you will find numerous different corals as well as the small crabs and nudibranches that live in them.
Longtail boat dive
This artificial reef, found at the front of Karon beach, has become home to several species of fish. Here you can see everything from small macro critters to large Jenkins rays over a meter in diameter. The most interesting finding has also been the perfectly disguised frog fish in the shallowest part of the cubes. The water may not be the most clear here, but the large spectrum of species compensate it completely.
Longtail boat dive
An interesting “rediscovered” dive site where have not been dived a lot in recent years. As the name implies, the site consists of large rock formations, around which there is also a coral reef. Here you will find new wonders with every dive from large rays to small nudibranches.
Beach Dive
This “hidden” beach offers a good diving spot and it is definitely the best snorkeling beach in Phuket. The reef is in good condition and serves as a nursery for small fishies. Here you can see everything the same as in the deepest destinations, but in miniature size. At this destination you can easily do two different kinds of dives as the ambient is different at the south and north end of the reef.
Beach Dive
The destination has recently turned out to be a pleasant surprise for those who like macro life. Here, too, you can dive south or north of the beach and see two different dive sites. The surroundings of Koh Man Island off the beach are full of fine coral reefs, but there is a bit of a long way to swim on the surface. Alternatively, you can always book a longtail boat and set out to explore Koh Man’s surroundings more widely.
Beach Dive
In the summer of 2020, diving began around Rawai Pier. It was quickly noticed that the area is a wonderful macro spot as there are many different rare shrimps and nudibranchs. Frogfish are also a common sight here. The destination is relatively shallow, often the depth of the dive is only 5 meters and the visibility is not among the best destinations. The site is great for night dives.
Longtail boat dive
The small island of Ko Pu off Kata beach is also accessible from Kata beach, but the most comfortable way to dive here is from a longtail boat. There is a huge amount of corals and marine life around the island to admire and because of that You can easily do more dives here exploring the different landscapes of the island. At the north of the island the landscape is dominated by magnificent reefs and at the south by great boulders.
Longtail boat dive
The three small islets off Bang Tao Beach hide a fine reef with lots to see. Dives to the site are done by longtail boat, usually from Kata Beach. The boat ride is about 50 minutes. This is an interesting site to dive in if you thought you had already seen everything in the Phuket area. At the north of the site there are many colorful soft corals and anemones. At the south are more hard coral and large boulders that attract larger fish such as moray eels and scorpionfish.
Longtail boat dive
One of Phuket’s first dredging wrecks can be found on a sandy bottom next to Koh Weah. The wreck has already broken up into several parts and its shape is difficult to identify. However, the wreck provides a home for many species ranging from Kobias through moray eels to small macro critters.
