This ridge that descends to depth is Koh Bon’s most famous dive site. It serves as a cleaning station for Manta rays and this is where Mantas will primarily be seen. The currents here are from moderate to strong so previous experience of drift diving is an advantage. Koh Bon is one of the most popular diving destinations in the Similan marine park area.
The shallow bay is full of beautiful coral and colorful reef fish. Mantas are also swimming around this dive site, so you don't have to dive to the Ridge to see them. On the spring 2020 liveaboard, almost all of our dives where we saw Manta, were done in this bay.
The reef is located on the northern side of the island. Corals are partly damaged here by the tsunami, but the reef have still much to see. Larger fishes, like trigger fishes and trevallies, also thrive on the reef so their hunting is a nice activity to follow. While You are admiring the scenery and fish, you should keep your eyes on the deeper sea in case Manta or a shark comes to visit at the reef.
Just a bit to the north from the reef lies this beautiful pinnacle. Covered by yellow soft coral and huge fan corals, the destination is a really beautiful place to dive. With this slightly deeper dive site, all of life is a little bigger. Huge lobsters hide in their cavities and large trevally hunt food from schools of fish. At the bottom you can often see reef sharks swimming between the rocks.
The huge dome-shaped pinnacle is famous for its beauty and diverse marine life. Mantas and whale sharks are often seen here. At their best, both on the same dive. The large bat fishes and trevallies are great to watch and the corals here are unparalleled. The currents here are from moderate to strong so previous experience of drift diving is an advantage. With mild currents this site is an underwater paradise and with strong currents it is a really challenging spot to dive.
A beautiful and lively reef that is so large that You are happy to do more than just one dive here to see it completely. At the shallow areas You can enjoy the beautiful and healthy corals on the reef and as you go deeper the sharks swim on the sandy bottom looking for food. This destination is sure to have something for everyone.
