Sea slugs are not only beautiful to look at, but they are also an important part of the ecology of the seas.

Sea snails play a crucial role in marine ecosystem themes. They promote the balance of their habitats by eating e.g. sponge and algae, while preventing their overgrowth. Sea snails also play an important role in research and nature conservation work.

In the SSI Nudibranch Ecology course you will learn:

To classify different species of sea snails, of which the nudibranches are just one of many.
To understand the habitat and feeding habits of sea slugs, which will help you find them better.
About the complex ways of reproduction of sea slugs and the relationship with other marine organisms.
About the interesting defense mechanisms and symbioses of sea slugs with other marine organisms.

Duration and contents

You can go through the theoretical part of the course at your own pace with e-materials.

Theory study, SSI e-material. (materials in English, translatable to other languages)
Online session with a schedule and duration that depends on you.
E-material knowledge review
E-material online exam

Schedule

You can study the e-material at your own pace.

A joint lecture is held discussing the topics of the course either face-to-face or as an online meeting.

An online lecture can be conducted through the best connection for you, e.g., Zoom, Teams etc.

Of course, it is recommended to do the course on site, in which case we can combine the course with dives, during which we can see and experience the things learned in the course.

Prerequisites

Minimum 10 year old
There are no other requirements for starting the course, but of course an interest in the topic is recommended.

If diving is carried out during the course, also the following:

Open Water Diver course (or equal completed with any organization)
Good health (No-answers at medical questionnaire or doctor's certificate that You are fit to dive)
To participate in the course, you must have diving insurance. You can also buy insurance through us.

Theory learning (no. dives incl.)

Two dives on Phuket's beautiful reefs (Kata/Karon)

Three dives on beautiful coral reefs
Diving equipments during the course
Transport from and to Your hotel (Kata, Karon, Rawai, Patong) on day trips
Breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinking water, coffee and tea

What do I need with me?

For the course days, all you need is a minimum of a happy mind, a swimsuit, a towel and course materials.
